The Great Aquarium Move
(this was written in Nov of 2000 in a series of emails to a friend who wanted to know how the move was progressing so all times are relative to that time period and not today)

My dearly beloved hubby (bless his heart) has decided we needed to buy a new 55 gal aquarium to replace the one that the top support has broken on and was bowing outward. So off we went to the local pet store and we bought one (it was on major sale of course, that's what made him decide now was a good time to buy it).

Of course since we are gonna be tearing down the aquarium to replace it with a new one we might as well tear the carpet up from the floor under them (it was at least 10 years old) and just use the hardwood floors that are there. Oh and of course while we are at it, we might as well move the 55 gal and trade places with it and the 29 gal and its cabinet. All this stuff being the end result that he decides that he is going to put the new aquarium on the bottom of our double stand and move his terrarium from the 29 to the old 55 since it doesn't have to be full of water.

After a bit we finally get all this stuff moved into position, the carpet removed from off  that section of the floor and finally get the top tank level, put the new tank on the bottom of the double stand, and IT DOESN'T FIT. Not the bottom one, but the top one. Its about an inch and a half too tall. Well the tank itself fits but you can't put the hoods on it that are necessary and there is no way you could get a pump etc on it. Sooo we can't use it on the bottom. He then decides that he will put that one on the top and guess what? it doesn't fit there either, its too tall by about 3/4 of an inch. It hits the bottom of the trophy shelf. Sooo, he had to raise the trophy shelf about an inch (more or less) and he's still trying to figure out how he's gonna get a tank that will fit on the bottom of our double stand (for his terrarium) since apparently even though its SUPPOSED to hold two 55 gallon tanks it doesn't look like its going to. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens and if he manages to figure out someway of doing this.

Well he FINALLY did it. He has gotten the aquariums all set up, the endless pounds of rocks in and after me filling the darn things one gal jug at a time from the faucet (yes that was endless trips from my kitchen sink to the living room carrying washed out milk jugs full of water) he gets the castles etc in, has it set just as he wants it, and then I hear a "Becky, we got a MAJOR problem" I'm thinking uhoh what could possibly be wrong now so I venture through to see and he says
"It don't fit"
"it don't fit? Why not?"
"The shelf is in the way" (Remember the shelf? the one that's already been moved?)
"Well I guess you'll have to raise it even higher"
"And just how is that going to help?" he not so politely says. "The aquarium is too close to the wall, the hood doesn't fit on it, its hitting the shelf"
By this point I'm thinking GREAT now we gotta move this thing AGAIN. Sooo I start to help him (anyone ever tried to lift a 55 gal aquarium with about 20 lbs of rock in the bottom and full of water still on the stand? Let me tell you it ain't easy) and he says "Just pull it forward a little we don't want to get it unsteady (yea right, anything that weighs that much is gonna have a tendency to get unsteady)
Well after much work and raising the shelf AGAIN,  we FINALLY got the first one set up. Now we gotta move the others and get them where they are going to need to go. Hard to tell what that will bring.
