Working in the Caverns

In August 2004 Appalachian Caverns reopened in Blountville TN. It had been closed for approximately 18 months and was bought in May of 2004 when it went up for auction. Shortly after it reopened I began working there.

The story of how I came to be there is just one of God's little ways of showing his sense of humor. I had just left a job in a local factory and was so frustrated I finally just said "God if you want me to work, you're just going to have to drop the job you want me to have right in my lap." I then went on to list several conditions I wanted out of this new job.

Well needless to say that is exactly what happened and I have enjoyed the majority of the time that I have worked there. I work off an on as needed.

I lead both regular and wild tours (which is amazing considering how claustrophobic I was when I started working there) but it can be a lot of fun. It has definitely allowed me to appreciate the beauty and need for caves in a way that I never had thought of before.
