Politics and Power Trips
Did you ever notice how so often those who are in power are those
who are control freaks and on power trips? They don't mind stepping on the shoulders of
anyone in their way in their rapid climb to the top. They will do whatever is necessary to
ensure they obtain a powerful position in the community and do whatever it takes to keep
it.
Many times you will find such people in executive positions of
organizations and local governments. Both are not afraid to sell others short to make
themselves look good. They will cut down others in an attempt to further themselves and
their careers. If they are somehow cut out of their power position, they immediately begin
to look for ways to cut those down who have taken over in order to restore their position.
If they feel their position is being threatened by someone, they will immediately begin to
look for ways of retribution to harm those who are coming against them so that they are
not forced out of power. Once they have lost their power, they begin to search for ways to
take it back.
Often in local governments we find the "good ole boys"
networks where bribery and money talking is the way the game is played. Those in office
are put there by the "money people" and it is only when Americans get tired of
this and vote in some honest people that we actually begin to see just how this works. We
begin to see that those "good ole boys" who lost their power are upset and will
do anything possible to get back in control including twisting the facts to take control
away from those in power.
In other organizations we find executive directors and CEO's who
use their position of power to ensure they receive a hefty paycheck often at the expense
of those who they are supposed to be working to benefit. After several years of being in a
position of power, they often will begin to show their true colors and we see the urge for
power and control to come out. We see them taking advantage of situations and manipulating
boards of directors to cover up their actions.
In both cases we find these type people are very smooth talkers and
very persuasive. They have an ability to convince those they are supposed to be answering
to that they are the ones in the right and everyone who opposes them are troublemakers.
These are the type people who in years past would have been very successful "snake
oil" salesmen because of their ability to cover up the truth.
Do we want these type people to be running our local governments
and organizations? Do we want these power hungry people to be in place in organizations
where our children are involved? We need to get involved and do something about these type
people. Vote in your elections, stand up and volunteer your time for organizations your
kids are involved in. Make a difference in your area. Just get involved.
