Being Led AstrayMatthew 24:24 “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect”.
From the beginning of
recorded history there have been many different religions to
control people with. Most but not all have a god of some type as
their central focus. Here is where our first decision comes in,
who do I call my God? Someone who is half man, half horse, one
you can buy in the market place, or one that created the
universe and will love within you? For any who is given these
choices the decision should be easy. Once you have chosen to
worship Jehovah God and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior
the rest should be easy but its not.
There are many different
groups claiming to serve God and claim Jesus as their savior but
many different ideas on how to live a Christian life. Many well
meaning people fall into the wrong groups because those groups
seem to know all the answers. Most new Christians don’t know
enough to determine what groups are Biblical and which are not.
There are two ways to determine which groups are teaching the
truth. One requires years of studying the Bible and studying
what a group believes but even then you could mistakes. In every
“Christian” group you will find people that have been in it for
most of their lives who read and study their Bible or special
books everyday. These people conclude that theirs is the one
true religious group.
The only true way to not
be deceived for either a mature or new Christian is to be in
close communication with God. As I have said many times before
the most important thing for a Christian to do is to learn God’s
voice so that they cannot be deceived.
When someone tells you
something that you know is not biblical, what do you do? Our
first reaction would be to get away from that person but let’s
look at this another way. First remember that no one is perfect.
People can be taught things, and some may not realize that they
are wrong or they may just have get names or places mixed up. We
need to ask God “what should I do, I know this is wrong?” He may
tell you to talk to the person about what was said. He may tell
you not to listen to this person. In our own selves we may make
the wrong decisions but God will lead us where we need to be.
When looking for a group
or denomination to be part of it is so important to listen to
God. So many times we don’t even have to ask because it is so
obvious they are wrong. Anyone who has accepted Jesus as their
Savior should be appalled when they are told that they can go to
a priest and he will forgive their sins. This is one of the
basic beliefs of the Catholic church so right away we know they
are not a Christian church because they contradict the very
purpose of Jesus.
We don’t have
to be Baptist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Lutheran or anything
other than Christian. If everyone would learn to listen to God
there would not be so many groups and denominations in the
world. Remember Jesus said in John 8:31-32
“If you continue in my word, then ye are my disciples indeed;
and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”.
