Anything
in Jesus Name?
John 14:11-14
says Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else
believe me for the very works sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on
me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;
because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that
the Father may be Glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do
it. These verses are often misused in today's church. Most
denominations say that this was only for the Apostles and does not apply to us today. That
Jesus doesn't still show his self in such miraculous ways and that we don't actually have
the power to perform miracles like they did back then. That all we can do is pray and ask
God to answer our petitions. The Bible warning us of how people will become in the last
days tells of these teachings in 2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of Godliness and denying
the power thereof: from such turn away. Here we are plainly told what we are to do if
we hear this kind of teaching Turn away! Find yourself another church that believes
all the Bible. I don't care if there are millions of people in this denomination that
believe this way, the Bible says to get away from them, therefore if God says to do it;
case closed; do it. You will never know who God truly is while denying what his plan is
for you.
Another thought on this takes it to the other
extreme. People think that you can declare anything and then say, "In Jesus
name" and God is obligated to grant your request. These people need to reevaluate
there relationship with God. When they got saved did they ask Jesus to be their servant
and cater to their every whim? They get disappointed when someone doesn't get healed, or
they don't get the car they wanted, or the situation doesn't work out like they said it
was going to because they prayed the way they were supposed to, "In Jesus Name."
Let's take a look at these verses and see what they
mean. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else
believe me for the very works sake. Jesus was saying there are two
reasons people follow me because of who I am or because of what I can do. Hopefully we
follow him for both reasons.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He
that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these
shall he do. If you believe Who Jesus says he is then you
will be able to not only spread the Gospel in even a greater way than he did but you will
also be able to duplicate and even do greater miracles than he did while here on Earth.
And why will we be able to do such things; because I go unto my Father. He told the disciples that they
would be endued with power from on high. Luke
24:49. Because he is setting at the right hand of the Father watching over us, he knows
our needs and what we are doing at all times. If a situation comes up that he hasn't
already given us the power to handle, he is always ready to jump in and help.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my
name, that will I do, that the Father may be Glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any
thing in my name, I will do it. A key word here is ask, we cannot
make God do anything. Just because you say you are doing something in Jesus' name don't
mean you are. If I tell my wife, "Go take the van to the garage and tell them I will
come pay them for the transmission when I get paid Friday," then she has done this in
my name and if I am an honest person then I will go pay for it on Friday. My friend sees
what was done and takes his car to get fixed and says "Charlie Hale will come and pay
you on Friday when he gets paid, he's a good friend of mine" thinking he did it for
her last week he'll do it for me this week. He would not be doing this in my name even
though he said he was. I would not show up to pay which would cause the mechanic to become
angry and resentful toward my friend and me when I didn't have anything to do with it.
This is what this verse is talking about. If Jesus tells you to go pray for Jenny and her
cancer will be healed, then you as Jesus' ambassador will not be let down. He will do what
he said he will if you are obedient regardless of the other ones faith. He might tell you
to tell Jenny "Jesus said have faith and you will be healed" then it will be
dependent on her faith. We have to have a close enough relationship with Jesus to
recognize his voice when he talks to us and then do what he says, no questions asked. Then
and only then can we claim this verse. To see a little girl with asthma and think God
wouldn't want her to suffer like that, so you go pray for her and say "You are healed
in Jesus name" without Jesus telling you to, makes you a liar and a false prophet.
Jesus has so many wonderful blessings for us but so
many times we don't get them because we aren't obedient and we try to out think God. Just
because God told you to handle a situation the same way the last 37 times you asked him,
don't assume he will have you to handle it the same way this time.
Blessings to you
