Let Your Light Shine
Ye are the light of the world.
A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a bushel but on a candlestick and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your
light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which
is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
This passage gives us a description of what we are supposed to be doing as
Christians. We are supposed to let our light shine. How do we let our light shine you may
ask? Well by being as Christ was. Doing good deeds without expecting to be rewarded on
earth for them, helping those who need help, not judging our brethren etc. All throughout
the Bible we are given examples of what is expected of us. We cannot hide our light
because then it is not effective. Our light is supposed to burn so brightly that it cannot
be hid.
We are always being watched as a Christian. Once we tell our friends
coworkers or whatever we are a Christian they are always watching us to see if our lives
coincide with what we say. People are always looking for a better way. If they have
watched us for awhile and see we are different we are happy we are more caring more loving
gentler after a while they will want what we have and that opens the opportunity to
witness.
If we go out and start yelling at everyone you need to be saved then it will
only anger those people. We are supposed to let them see our light so they will want what
we have. Not everyone is called to be an evangelist or teacher or pastor but we are all
called to be lights.
So today as you go forth try to let your light shine a little brighter. You
never know today might be the day someone comes to you and asks you how to get what you
have.
